HOW TO DECORATE A BEDROOM

Designed correctly, a bedroom can be your daily sanctuary.

June 24, 2019

As the nights grow longer, how we decorate our bedrooms becomes even more important with well designed lighting and pieces. We have you covered with exclusives you’ll only find at Bragg & Co, the name to know when you’re looking for beautiful lamps, bedside tables and étagère. Founded by top Australian designer Adelaide  Bragg, the brand wowed the design scene at last week’s Denfair with the season’s most-wanted statement-pieces.

While bedrooms are a deeply personal space, they’re also where you will spend most of the hours in your home.

Simple, elegant ideas and innovative items can elevate the space, creating a room that reflects as it restores, impresses as it invigorates. Good lighting such as Bragg & Co’s lamps can make a difference to the furniture, the walls and the people in the bedroom, so it’s important to think about the quality and type of light. A poorly chosen lamp, shade or bulb that produces low-quality illumination can ruin even the most beautifully designed room. Read more, ‘Hands Down, This is The Best New Occasional Furniture Brand.’

LIGHTING OPTIONS

There’s nothing more frustrating than a bedroom with just one overhead light. “At night, it’s helpful to have layers of lighting in the bedroom”, explains Bragg. “Table lamps are a powerful thing.” The right ones lift the mood, inspire productivity, and motivates us.

“Table lamps allow you to illuminate the room and set the right mood”, says Bragg.

Without quieter moments, everything is flat and boring. It’s the subtle interplay between light and dark, that creates appeal. Bragg & Co’s lamp collection come in three classic contemporary curvaceous shapes and an array of hues, from caramel to coral, pink, white, black, navy, green, even tortoiseshell.  turquoise, marshmallow pink, periwinkle, light blue crackle, nougat, red, yellow, green – something for all tastes. A pair of these in a bedroom will instantly give a room confidence.

CREATE DEPTH

Try a pair of the shaded lamps positioned at waist height to smooth and soften the room. By using individual lamps you can bounce light across bedroom walls and ceilings. This way, you get dynamic lighting with the ability to change the mood of the room, as desired. Read more, ‘The Three Best Textures For The Modern Home.’

HOW TO POSITION LAMPS

A pair of lamps on bedside tables usually offers a more appealing glow. Many designers use table lamps on either side of the bed. The table lamps provide an ambient glow. You want a super simple table like our Camilla étagère in raffia or gloss teamed with a really pretty lamp. If there’s space, place bedside tables on both sides of the bed for convenience. They could be bedside tables with a single drawer for storing essentials, or something larger. Read more, ‘Lighting A Room, Simplified.’

DO YOU LIKE TO WATCH TV IN BED?

If so, you’ll want a cabinet or console table near the foot of the bed that can hold the TV while providing additional storage. Read more, ‘MP X Belle: Style Etiquette Masterclass For The Bedroom.’

EMPHASISE THE ARCHITECTURE OF YOUR BEDROOM

Table lamps can help to direct the gaze upwards toward the ceiling and accent a bedroom’s architraves and mouldings, or a favourite piece of artwork or furniture. Consider your journey through the room from where you turn on the lamp to where you sit, lie, work, sleep. Read more, ‘How Posh Is Your Bedroom?’

SCALE IS KEY

It might seem counterintuitive, but in a bedroom with relatively small square footage, sizing up the bedside tables can make the most of every centimetre. “A spacious bedroom is the dream, but outfitting it with accents that speak to that scale is key”, says Bragg.

A COMFORTING COLOUR PALETTE

You want everything in your bedroom to exude comfort, and the colour palette is no exception. Whether you’re a fan of warm or cool shades, pick colours that you naturally gravitate toward and give you a sense of calm.

Bragg & Co offers every drool-worthy colour lamp to choose from.

A TOUCH OF DRAMA

Even the brightest, most cheerful bedrooms need an element of dark glamour. Balance is key. Stick with a few dramatic pieces, like a black étagère.

A VARIETY OF TEXTURES

Of course your bedding is luxurious, but don’t forget texture throughout the rest of your room. Bragg & Co’s newish small table and etegare designs come in the brand’s trademark raffia or glossy finishes that give a room a bit of a polish are worth investigating. Great colours, too.
