It might take a while for everyone to warm up to spending time together, all confined in one location. We may well be locked indoors, but now is the time to tackle household hopes and dreams or atleast transform your sitting room by repositioning the sofa, and get to your creative projects and repairs on your rainy day to do list. Head to the blog for some of our fave things you can do very quickly that won’t cost a thing. For starters, try the 5-minute refresh - doing a few minutes of housekeeping daily, is enough to “reset” your rooms to a neutral position over isolation, if you’re doing a lot of living in them. It prevents your pad from getting out of hand. Find out how straightening and realigning things like chairs, tables, art, lampshades and books that have been nudged out of place will give the “feel” and “look” of order to spaces. Oh and let in more light during the day - throw open the windows and the doors (there’s something about connecting with the natural world that makes the daily minutiae dissolve). Roll up every blind to bring as much natural light in as possible. Dim the lights at night - soft lighting can completely change a room and create the perfect atmosphere. Pick up dust or dirt. Spending so much time in rooms at home in solidarity has us thinking what we humans do. And, actually, what is a room. Humans have a need to gather and connect in enclosed spaces - that creates a togetherness. Recently a small panel of experts gathered at the @nytimes to make a list of history’s most enduring and significant spaces. These are the world’s most influential rooms - in other words, these spaces have inspired interior design throughout the decades, shaping how our minds identify and assess a space, any space.
